The committee unanimously recommended that the Yankee Bottle Club be authorized to design, fabricate and donate a historical marker recognizing the former Keene Bottle Works site for installation along the Cheshire Rail Trail, and that the city manager be authorized to facilitate installation.
Councilor Ed Haas told the committee the Yankee Bottle Club runs an annual antique-bottle show locally and asked for a marker “right on the rail trail” at the original bottle-works location to add local history and wayfinding for trail users. Haas said an existing New Hampshire Department of Transportation sign near the recreation center references a different site two and a half miles away, and the club’s marker would identify the factory footprint nearer the rail trail.
A motion to authorize the city manager to take the actions necessary to install the donated marker was made, seconded and approved unanimously. Staff will work with the donor organization on design and siting and will proceed to coordinate fabrication and installation following the city manager’s authorization and any applicable permitting or right‑of‑way approvals.
