The Board of Public Works voted to authorize final payment of $52,829.66 to KJU to close out the Terrace sewer extension project.
City staff told the board the sewer line was part of a long-standing annexation project dating to 1961 and was among the last areas to be brought into city services. The line is installed, inspected and functioning; two residences already have been connected and two more are in the process of being hooked up by a local plumber.
Staff said the extra cost resulted from encountering rock in the hillside and from needing additional manhole structures to reach final elevations. "When we went out and did our initial plan on it, there was a mis measurement of some kind ... they had to go a little bit deeper. So they had to buy a couple extra structure pieces to bring the manhole up to elevation," the staff member said.
The board approved payment and directed staff to forward the documentation to the city council for processing. No further action was taken at the meeting regarding additional hookups; staff said residents are working with a local plumber to complete those connections.
