The Unified Government Commission approved a special‑use permit for a short‑term rental at 4512 Cambridge Street on Aug. 28 by a 9–0 vote.
Staff from the Planning Department described the property and recommended approval with conditions. Randy Greaves, a staff preservationist, told the commission the short‑term rental is the first in its area and that one planning commissioner voted against the permit at the planning commission level because of issues with overgrown grass; Greaves said the owner has since corrected that condition.
The applicant identified themself as an owner of the property and said the unit will be used for family and for guests associated with educational programs; the applicant said they will maintain the lawn and meet the conditions tied to the permit. "We had, received a couple different stipulations to go with the rental, which was, the upkeep of the area, the lawn care area, and that's what we plan to do," the applicant said during the public hearing.
There were no public speakers recorded either in favor or in opposition during the hearing. After the close of the public hearing commissioners moved to approve the staff recommendation. The clerk recorded a roll call showing unanimous approval.
The special‑use permit was granted for one year, per the planning staff recommendation; the motion passed 9–0. Staff noted conditions attached to the permit, including property upkeep and any standard operational restrictions for short‑term rentals. The commission did not request additional restrictions at the meeting.
