The Village of Addison on Aug. 18 recognized Community Relations Director Don Weiss, who will retire at the end of the month after 41 years of service to the village.
Mayor Hundley and trustees praised Weiss’s long career and credited him with building the community relations department and launching programs such as Addison Community Television and large public events. "You basically built and created the entire community relations department and have carried the department through literally decades of changes," the mayor said.
Weiss spoke to the board and staff and said he plans to continue teaching as an adjunct in public administration at Northern Illinois University. "I hope I've touched some lives, helped people, and helped people become more engaged and connected with a really great community," Weiss said. He described memories from his tenure and thanked colleagues and the community.
Trustees and staff noted events and programs Weiss helped create, including the municipal cable studio and Rockin' Wheels, and encouraged residents to attend upcoming village events listed during the meeting. The recognition was a board presentation; there was no formal personnel action recorded at the meeting.
