Board approves janitorial contract for city hall; bill becomes ordinance

The Board of Aldermen approved second reading of Bill 3504 on July 7, authorizing the city administrator to prepare and enter an agreement for janitorial services at city facilities. The bill received a roll call vote and was adopted as ordinance number 3409 at the meeting.

City staff explained the contract would replace the previous vendor when that agreement expired and that the vendor now being given the opportunity had been a runner‑up when the city solicited proposals originally. “This is a contract for the janitorial services for the city hall and … the previous vendor is up,” a city staff member said. “Orbis was the second company when we went out for the original proposals, so we’re gonna give them a shot here.”

A motion and second were recorded and the roll call recorded aldermen voting in the affirmative: Moreno, Thomas, Sparks, Murphy, Jonas, Crony and Shy.

Why it matters: The city will operate under a new janitorial agreement at city facilities once the city administrator executes the contract under the authority granted by the ordinance.

What’s next: Staff will finalize an agreement consistent with the ordinance language; no additional board action was taken at the meeting.
