On Aug. 20, 2025, the Planning and Zoning Commission voted to recommend approval of an amendment to Ordinance 19‑095 allowing an addition to the Benson Automotive dealership at 2150 Technology Drive (CUP25‑06). The amendment would add about 5,686 square feet to the service department, including seven service bays, a wash/detail bay and a tool room.
County staff told the commission that the amendment is consistent with the 2019 conditional use permit and with the Unified Development Ordinance, and recommended approval with the five conditions contained in the staff report. The applicant’s engineer, Larry Walker of Bax Engineering, said the expansion is “pretty basic” and that the addition meets setback, parking and water‑quality/detention requirements; he also said operations and hours would remain the same.
Arnie C. Dinoff, County Public Advocate, spoke in support of the application, saying the dealership had been a “good neighbor” since 2019 and had met environmental and operational expectations. After public comment closed and the applicant confirmed acceptance of staff conditions, the commission voted unanimously to recommend approval; roll call in the transcript records all voting commissioners as yes.
Staff noted the amended site plan must conform to the final concept plan submitted with the request and that any major variation to the approved CUP would again require Planning and Zoning and County Council review. The commission’s recommendation will be forwarded to the County Council for final action.
