At the City of Joliet pre-council meeting Aug. 18, Barry McHugh, representing the Cathedral Area Preservation Association, urged the council to approve a variation of use to allow a two-unit residence at 361 Wilcox Street.
“From Cabot’s perspective, we're all for it. It maintains the environment of the neighborhood. It’s got a historical basis as a multi use facility. So we completely support that and I hope you do too,” McHugh said. He identified himself as being from 808 Mason Avenue and noted the structure sits across from a school and was historically a grocery with upstairs housing.
The city manager listed the item as council memo 4-51-25, an ordinance approving a variation of use to allow the continuation of a two-unit residence in the R3 and R2 zoning districts at 361 Wilcox Street. The memo was presented as part of the agenda review for the upcoming council meeting; no formal council action occurred during the pre-council session.
