Village approves three-year extension with United Meters Inc. to finish water meter replacements

The Village Board on June 25 approved a contract extension with United Meters Incorporated (UMI) to continue replacing water meters throughout the village after supply delays prevented completion under the original three-year contract.

Director Wolf explained staff had a phased three-year plan with UMI but could not meet original targets because of procurement delays for meters and reading devices. He said staff seeks a three-year extension focused first on completing residential meter replacements and then addressing problematic commercial meters.

Wolf emphasized the contract uses unit pricing and is a “not to exceed” arrangement: “All of the pricing that consists in the contract is unit pricing ... we’re only paying for based upon unit pricing,” he said. Board members voted to approve the extension; the roll-call as recorded showed affirmative votes and the clerk stated the measure “carries 6 to 0.”

Staff said the outstanding quantity is an estimate and that the contract figure represents a target, not a fixed payment, because actual payment is driven by units installed. The contract extension was approved by roll call; staff will proceed with meter replacements under the extended timeline.

Next steps: staff will schedule replacement work, prioritize residential meters, and address identified problematic commercial meters under the extended contract.
