The Historic District Commission approved an application to replace existing steel driveway edging at 298 Harbor Road with a three-inch nominal bluestone curb on both sides of the driveway.
Jack Fransen, representing the property owners Kyle and Alana Griswold, said the earlier-approved steel edging installed during a renovation is not performing because runoff from the hill above the driveway prevents the edge from holding up; raising the steel would damage vehicle tires. He said replacing the steel with bluestone will better contain water and is a previously approved, locally appropriate material.
Commissioners asked whether removing the steel edge would damage the driveway; Fransen said the driveway surface is oil-and-stone and could be patched if needed. The commission recorded no letters for or against the application. After a brief discussion a motion to approve the replacement passed by voice vote.
