At the May 8, 2025 meeting of the Skagway Municipality Planning and Zoning Commission, the permitting official reported that April was busy, with 37 RV habitation applications submitted. The official said all RVs were inspected; 31 RV habitation permits were issued and six remained pending while deficiencies were corrected.
The permitting official told commissioners an update had been added to the municipality's GIS maps hub: one new map shows temporary RV habitation permit locations and whether each is permitted or pending; a second new map displays building-permit information. "There's 2 new maps added. 1 is for temporary habitation of RV permits where you can see exactly where the RV is located, and it shows you that they're either, permitted or they are still pending. And there is another map with building another permits," the official said.
The permitting official also stated a conflict of interest related to agenda item 9(a). "For item 9 a, I would like to formally recuse myself from my role as the permitting official for this agenda item. I'm a co owner of the property for which the conditional use permit is being requested," the official said, and added that to avoid conflict they would not participate in the permitting review but intended to take part in presenting the application to the commission as a co-owner. Emily Deach, borough manager and acting building official, conducted the borough's code review for the Fairbanks application.
