Council awards $56,250 turnout gear contract to McQueen Emergency using ARPA grant match

Rolla Fire and Rescue received council approval to buy 10 sets of athletic turnout gear from McQueen Emergency (MSA Globe manufacturer) for a total of $56,250.
Fire Department staff said members unanimously endorsed this gear for its lighter weight and safety features. The department secured a $27,900 ARPA grant through the Department of Homeland Security that requires a 50/50 hard match; staff said the local match of roughly $28,350 will come from the department’s budget.
The fire chief explained turnout gear consists of the pants and coat, has a recommended lifespan (NFPA guidance noted) and that the department replaces roughly one‑third of its gear each year to maintain rotation. Replaced gear is retained as backup and used for training or to outfit new hires; gear is destroyed after its service life.
Council approved awarding the contract to McQueen Emergency by motion and voice vote.
