Milford Police Report: 1,327 Calls in August; New Outreach Programs Highlighted

Milford Police Chief Cecilia Ash told council on Sept. 8 the department handled 1,327 calls for service in August and is expanding community outreach with a recently purchased community engagement trailer.

“Sometimes when we have events ... some people may struggle to get there,” Chief Ash said, describing the trailer’s role in taking outreach into neighborhoods where residents live and work. She cited a recent outreach event at Avenue Church and said the trailer helps address transportation and access barriers.

Chief Ash also described Blue Envelope, a new initiative launched with the Delaware State Police to aid communication during traffic stops for people who have autism or other disabilities. “We are the first police agency to partner with Delaware State Police,” she said, and added the program aims to make traffic stops less intimidating for people with communication or sensory challenges.

Ash stressed that residents should call the communications center for concerns rather than relying on the city app or website; the department does not monitor those channels 24/7. She provided the nonemergency number, 422-8081, and reminded residents that dialing 911 will route calls to the dispatch center.

Council accepted the chief’s report by motion and voice vote.
