Courthouse and annex restoration progresses; elevator inspection pending before furniture move-in

County facilities committee members told Callahan County Commissioners Court on June 23 that work on the courthouse restoration and annex continues and that progress has been steady despite the outside appearance.

Committee members said exit signs and much of the glass installation are complete, landscaping work is underway and backfilling on the south side is nearly finished. Retaining walls and handrails are partly installed (handrails about 75% complete). The east side of the annex had been cleared for an incoming delivery of two truckloads of office furniture expected Wednesday; the furniture will be held in the annex until the elevator can be inspected and certified for use.

Contractor BioVadix installed HVAC thermostats and placed a control panel in the mechanical yard that will manage feeder pumps and fan speeds; the committee said the mechanical crew must return to activate water systems. Committee members said they had no firm move-in date but noted progress and that a neighboring county (Taylor County) was looking at a September timeline, though staff said that date was tentative.

No firm occupancy date was set at the meeting; officials said they expected final inspections and mechanical work to determine when furniture and staff can move in.
