Court opens expedited recruitment to fill Constable Precinct 4 vacancy

Travis County commissioners on Aug. 19 authorized an expedited recruitment process to fill a vacancy in the office of Constable Precinct 4 and set a compressed timeline for vetting and appointment.

County staff said the open call will close on Sept. 5 and that, provided adequate applicants, staff will return to the commissioners court on Sept. 23 with a vetted, qualified list of candidates. The court will conduct interviews and make the appointment on Sept. 30. Julie Wheeler, Intergovernmental Relations, noted the position carries statutory and law‑enforcement requirements and the application language was adjusted to reflect an appointment date no earlier than Sept. 30.

Commissioners approved the shortened recruitment window and scheduling; court members emphasized the need to ensure applicants meet the statutory qualifications and law‑enforcement prerequisites listed in the call materials.

Ending: staff will issue the call with the Sept. 5 closing date, vet candidates for statutory eligibility, and return to court with a qualified list for interviews and appointment in late September.
