Prophet Drive site near completion; animal services space, kennels and fencing remain

County staff told the Commissioners Court the Prophet Drive complex — which includes the sheriff’s office, animal services and a county warehouse — is nearing occupancy for sheriff’s office space and that animal services work is in progress.

Why it matters: completing the Prophet Drive project will consolidate sheriff, animal-services and warehouse operations at one site and is a visible example of CO-funded capital work the court has already advanced.

Status and timeline
John (staff member) reported the sheriff’s office spaces are finished and the county is modifying one area to provide additional parking access; crews issued a change order for flooring and staff expect the building to be ready for occupancy in October. Mark (staff member) said kennels had been or were being procured and that the county had approved a contract for an on-site waste-evacuation system and for furnishing the office spaces.

Remaining site items and costs
John said consultant and RMA fees are not included in the current project total and that additional site work — fencing, an ADA ramp, gates and exercise-area adjustments for the animal services area — will likely cost in the $200,000–$250,000 range to complete. Those items must be finished before final occupancy of the animal-services portion.

Staff said they will continue coordination with contractors to trim furnishing costs where feasible and will return with a final occupancy date and a reconciled budget that includes consultant and site costs.
