Volunteer describes multi-phase improvements at Harrisonville animal shelter

A community volunteer updated the Board of Aldermen on renovation and beautification work at the Harrisonville animal shelter.
Marcy Baumuth identified herself as a representative of shelter volunteers and described four phases of work that have been completed or are underway: replacing tile with continuous sheet flooring to improve cleanliness; painting the lobby walls light blue and installing murals (one behind the front desk and a planned adoption photo spot by the door); installing a granite countertop in the lobby; and applying adhesive planking to repair the front of the counter.
Baumuth said volunteers purchased furniture and rugs, and that the mural and bench by the door will provide a backdrop for adoption photos. She credited a volunteer, Jaden Gilbert, with choosing the colors and painting a mural.
Mayor Zaring thanked Baumuth for the update and the photographs she shared with the board.
Why it matters: Volunteers’ upgrades are intended to improve sanitation, the shelter’s welcoming appearance and the adoption experience for residents and potential adopters.
What’s next: Baumuth said the final phase of front-counter repair was expected to finish the week of the meeting.
