Village officials told trustees they recently participated in a teleconference with representatives from the Illinois attorney general’s office and Illinois American Water about resident complaints over water billing and customer service.
The village attorney said the meeting included the mayor and village manager and that officials remain "hopeful that at the end of the day an agreement or memorandum of understanding will be reached" to address billing anomalies and customer service issues that residents reported in a survey. The attorney said roughly "740 some odd residents" responded to the attorney general’s survey and the AG’s office has been reviewing the results.
During public comment, at least one resident urged the board to address what he described as high water bills and requested access to the village financial statements. The resident said his monthly water bill had reached about $300 and that he receives $45,000 in annual income; the resident asked village staff to follow up and was told the village manager or staff would contact him after the meeting.
Trustees and staff described the teleconference as "collaborative" and said village staff have been engaged with Illinois American Water and the attorney general’s office on billing and customer service anomalies. No ordinance or formal action was taken at the meeting; trustees directed staff to continue discussions and to follow up with residents who raised concerns during public comment.
Discussion only: staff reported on an ongoing state‑level review and residents raised concerns. Direction: staff to continue liaison with the AG’s office and Illinois American Water and to follow up individually with residents requesting assistance. Formal action: none recorded at this meeting.
