Lockport Public Works crews began emergency response immediately after a recent storm, opening roads and removing fallen trees and hangers, and expect to complete citywide branch pickup within about one week.
Council members praised the department’s rapid response: staff reported crews worked 10-hour shifts to clear roads, remove hanging debris and collect branches. Public Works staff said they had completed roughly a third of the city and anticipated finishing by the end of the following Friday, weather permitting. Residents were urged to place branches at the curb for pickup and to contact Public Works directly if pickup was missed.
Council members also reminded residents to clear street grates and drains near their properties to reduce localized flooding; one council member recounted personally clearing multiple streets and encouraged neighbors to help protect drains from grass clippings and leaves. The mayor and council thanked Public Works and noted the Bridal Street lift station recently completed and that work continues addressing storm recovery and planned capital projects.
No formal action was required; staff said they will continue debris collection and provide timelines if conditions change.
