The Village Council approved the payment of claims totaling $221,532.81 by motion and roll call.
During discussion the finance presenter highlighted two notable items in this month's claims: a payment toward the village’s Other Post‑Employment Benefits (OPEB) liability, made under the council’s annual surplus policy established in 2019, and a $30,000 payment to Spicer that staff said is revenue neutral because the village has already received the matching grant check. “The two big expenditures this month were to our OPEB liability based on the annual surplus policy... And then the second one is a $30,000 payment to Spicer, which is a grant. We already received the check,” a staff member said.
The council approved the claims by roll call; recorded votes show Christine Newman, Michael Nesbitt, Edgar Titoff, Cathy Harris and Jennifer Rosser Nesbitt voting yes, with two members absent.
Why it matters: The claims authorization releases cash for operations and capital work; the OPEB payment reflects the council’s policy to allocate surplus funds to liabilities, and the Spicer payment is treated as revenue‑neutral because it is covered by a grant already received.
