The DeKalb County Council approved an amendment to the 2025 Salary and Hourly Wage Ordinance on Aug. 13 to adjust pay for a School Resource Officer and to fix an account number for a Sunny Meadows matron, while deferring consideration of a higher hourly rate for a part-time animal-control officer.
County staff said the deputy serving as an SRO has 11-plus years of experience and needs an adjustment under the deputy pay matrix to match his current hourly rate. Council members voted to approve the SRO adjustment and a correction to the Sunny Meadows matron account number after staff confirmed the original omission was an administrative error.
Council and staff discussed a separate request to pay a part‑time animal control officer at a higher "qualified professional" pay rate previously used by the sheriff's office; the council elected to remove that item from the current ordinance and to seek additional information from the sheriff's office and staff before taking action.
Council moved, suspended rules and approved the amended ordinance (2025-OCC-6) on second and third readings during the same meeting after debate.
