Stevensville council adopts job description to formalize sergeant promotion

The Stevensville Town Council voted to adopt Resolution 529a, which adds job descriptions to support the recent promotion of Officer Franklin to sergeant and formalize position duties. Council member Bray moved to adopt the resolution; Council member Clark seconded the motion, and the council approved the resolution by voice vote, 4 to 0.

Town staff said the job description was prepared after Officer Franklin's promotion to sergeant to ensure personnel files and documentation matched the promotion. The chief provided a recommendation letter and the description to town staff; Gina placed the documents in the officer's personnel file.

During discussion, Council member Smith asked whether certain first-aid certifications — for example CPR — should be listed in the sergeant job description, given that sergeants and officers may be first responders. The chief (chief Bogart) replied that CPR and similar certifications are handled department-wide because certifications must be renewed periodically and so are not typically included on individual job descriptions. “We would do it as a department-wide [requirement],” the chief said, adding that such certifications were not on the current descriptions.

The transcript records the roll call as Council member Barker — Aye; Council member Brown — Aye; Council member Gray — Aye; Council member Smith — Aye. The motion passed 4 to 0.

The approved resolution implements updated job descriptions in personnel records; staff did not propose additional changes to training requirements during the vote.
