Crafton Borough Council approved a resolution on Aug. 14 authorizing the borough to apply for $228,719 from Allegheny County’s gaming economic development and tourism fund to support pool improvements and serve as a match for a Department of Conservation and Natural Resources (DCNR) grant application submitted earlier this year.
Manager and staff described the proposed scope as replacement of the pool slide recommended in a 2013 study, a pavilion, improvements to the concession stand (including air conditioning) and other small amenities such as lawn games. Staff said past pool upgrades were completed in the previous year and that the requested county funds would cover the planned work if DCNR funding is secured or would be used on the pool improvements if DCNR funds are not awarded.
Staff said the county announce/award calendar typically falls either late in the year or by the following spring. Council approved Resolution 2025-15 to apply for the funding; the motion was for application only, not to authorize immediate construction. Councilmembers asked schedule and contingency questions and were told the borough could reapply to DCNR if necessary and would return to council for construction authorization if and when funding is secured.
