The Keith County Board of Commissioners voted to sign a resolution allocating $582,075.43 in property-tax authority to local political subdivisions, the board said during its meeting.
The resolution, based on Nebraska Revised Statute 77-34-42 and 77-34-43, assigns 2025 tax authority as follows: Keith County Ag Society general fund $124,200 and sinking fund $25,000; Brule Cemetery District $20,648.25; Brule Fire District general fund $84,142.98; Ogallala Fire District $225,000; Paxton Bridal Fire District $62,315.08; Paxton Cemetery $20,769.12; and Paxton Cemetery other $20,000. The board recorded a motion to adopt the resolution and approved it by roll call.
Commissioner Irvin moved to authorize the allocations and Commissioner Schroeder seconded. The roll call vote recorded all members present as voting yes.
Board members said they found no reason to deny the requests and noted some subdivisions may need to work with the state auditor if they had accounting or timing issues in prior years. The board did not change the subdivisions’ requested amounts during the meeting.
The action implements the board’s obligation under the cited statutes to review and approve requests for the county’s allocated property-tax authority to other political subdivisions.
A formal signed resolution will be filed with the county and distributed to the affected subdivisions, county staff said.
