Committee adopts revised weights-and-measures fee schedule to take effect in 2026

The PVD City Council Finance Committee approved updates to the city’s weights-and-measures fee schedule for 2026 after a presentation from the sealer of weights and measures, Mr. Collins. The committee approved the change by roll-call vote, 5-0.

Collins reviewed current fees, noting the last increase was in 2021 and that the proposed 2026 changes would adjust commonly used inspection fees by modest amounts—typically $5 or $10—and leave most fees unchanged. Collins said the updated fees are in line with the area median and remain “certainly lower than a lot of other communities” in many cases.

Councilor Turco told Collins the proposed increases appeared fair and justified over a four-year period. The committee discussed procedure: the city’s recodification moved fees out of ordinances and onto a fee schedule maintained in the City Clerk’s office, so no ordinance advertising is required. The chair clarified the proper motion was to accept the sealer’s proposed fees and update the schedule on file in the City Clerk’s office; Councilor Gould moved the motion, which the committee approved 5-0.

The action updates the administrative fee schedule for weights-and-measures inspections; no ordinance language or additional regulatory change was adopted at the meeting.
