The Odessa City Council authorized the city manager to proceed with the purchase of Palo Alto Prisma cloud security software from CDW‑G for $124,318.96, with staff estimating about $60,000 per year in recurring costs for licensing and support.
Tony, an information-technology staff member, asked the council to authorize the purchase and described the cost breakdown: "We're asking to, have you authorize the purchase of Palo Alto Prisma for 124,318.96. Approximately, 60,000 will be reoccurring. The rest are one time setup fee," he said. The council removed the item from the table, heard the staff presentation, and approved the purchase by voice vote; council members said "aye" and the motion passed.
Staff earlier had indicated the matter was related to network security and followed an executive-session discussion that listed security assessments and network-security information among permitted executive-session topics under Texas law. Council did not state implementation dates at the meeting; staff will handle procurement and deployment steps through the city’s information-technology group.
No formal dissent or amendments were recorded on the purchase at the meeting.
