The Odessa City Council approved a rezoning request to change the zoning of Lots 5 and 6, Block 97, from MF-2 (multifamily) to NS (neighborhood services) to allow an engineering office to operate on the site.
City planning staff member Maria explained the property sits at the southwest corner of North Tom Green Avenue and East Eleventh Street, is developed with a single-story building (approximately 2,800 square feet) and a 128-square-foot storage building, and is surrounded by single-family residential uses to the northeast, south and west. "The applicant, Hunter Summit and Engineering Group owner are seeking to rezone this property to neighborhood services in order to facilitate office use on the property for their engineering group," Maria said. Staff reported 20 notices were sent, there were no denials or approvals returned, and one notice was returned to sender. Staff recommended approval subject to conditions.
The council opened and then closed the public hearing after hearing no speakers. A motion to approve the rezoning was made and seconded; council voted unanimously in favor.
Maria noted the site's history included a specific-use permit from Dec. 15, 1981, allowing a fraternal club or lodge, which explained existing building use. No additional conditions beyond staff recommendations were recorded on the floor during the vote.
