Council staff seeks $82,174 design amendment for Featherline Road water-line connection

Public works staff asked the council to authorize a contract amendment with Kimley‑Horn in the amount of $82,173.76 to extend design of a new 12‑inch water line associated with the Featherline Road reconstruction project. Staff said the amendment would extend the water‑line design north along Stagecoach to the intersection with W.S. Young to provide a future connection outside the roadway alignment.

Funding and scope: Staff emphasized the change order will be paid from bond-funded water and sewer project funds (not road funds) and that the water line is intended to serve future upper pressure plane needs. The current road contractor is working within roadway limits and staff wants the water design to place the pipe outside the roadway footprint to avoid redoing the new road in coming years.

Why it matters: Extending the water-line design now is intended to reduce future construction conflicts and additional roadway disturbance. Staff recommended council authorize the city manager to execute the amendment.
