Final change order of $86,542 closes out ADA sidewalk project; funded from child-safety program

Public Works staff presented a final change order for the sidewalk and ADA ramp improvements project on Aug. 19. Change Order No. 1 with Jerrodin Enterprises LP increases the contract by $86,542, representing final measured quantities and additional tasks needed to meet PROWAG (Public Right‑of‑Way Accessibility Guidelines) and state inspection requirements.

Scope and cause: The project replaced or altered ramps and sidewalks at multiple school-area locations and one site along W.S. Young. Staff said some locations required curb and gutter modifications, additional sidewalk replacement, and alterations where strict PROWAG slope standards could not be met — in those cases the contractor performed approved modifications (alterations) and replaced longer sidewalk sections as required.

Funding and oversight: Staff said change order funding comes from the child-safety fund, an account intended for school-area safety infrastructure. The contractor will address punch-list items following state inspection.

Why it matters: The change order finalizes the project scope to ensure ramps and sidewalks meet federal/state accessibility guidance as implemented locally. Staff recommended council authorize execution of the final change order; the item was approved on the consent agenda.
