Board approves MOU allowing Nafcare limited access to county security system

The Board of Supervisors on Aug. 19 approved a memorandum of understanding that will allow Nafcare to access the county’s Shield system under the county’s security standards, the county IT director said.

“This agreement is, so that, Nafcare can adhere to the same security standards we have in terms of the security keys, to be compliant with the CDISC,” the IT director told the board during discussion of the consent agenda item. The board voted to authorize the chair to sign the agreement.

Why it matters: Sharing access to law-enforcement or records systems carries security and privacy implications; the MOU requires the external party to meet the county’s technical and security standards before access is granted.

The IT director said the agreement is intended to ensure Nafcare complies with county security requirements. The board approved the MOU on the consent agenda with a roll-call vote; the transcript records the votes as affirmative.

The item was acted on as part of the consent agenda and there was no separate debate during the meeting.
