Polk County Commissioners Court awarded two construction contracts tied to Texas General Land Office Community Development Block Grant (CDBG) projects during the meeting.
The engineer recommended awarding a package of roadway projects in Precincts 1 and 3 to the low bidder, Texas Materials (Eastex area), for a total of $2,966,591.33. The package included base bids and several addenda covering River Road, Druce Landing, Route 66, El Camino and Ellis Grimes in Precinct 1 and Rockdale Road, Carthage Road and Maybank Road in Precinct 3.
The court also approved awarding a drainage contract covering MLK Street and Union Springs Road in Precinct 3 to Crockett Construction for $791,546; staff said the engineer recommended rejecting certain addenda for that package and that environmental clearance had been obtained.
Staff and the grant administrator said the projects are fully grant funded and that the commissioners and engineers worked to keep the work within grant budgets without compromising the scope. The court adopted the awards as recommended and recorded the motions and votes in the minutes.
Staff noted estimated schedule milestones and said the grant contract numbers were GLO contract 24-065-044-E536 (roadway packages) and GLO contract 24-065-045-E537 (drainage projects). The court’s approval moves the projects into the contractor scheduling and permit phase as grant conditions allow.
