Planning staff presented the first reading of the 2025 comprehensive-plan docket to the City Council on Aug. 26 and asked council members to review the list of proposed amendments and development-regulation items prior to the next meeting.
Planner (referred to in the packet as Miss Murphy) said state rules and local code require the planning commission to make a recommendation to council and for council to approve the docket. "We're required to keep a list of all the recommendations that have been proposed," she said, and noted that items come from staff, the planning commission and citizens.
A separate procedural point was raised by City Manager Carl Lindsey, who said some cities set docket priorities at the start of the year by council direction rather than primarily through the planning commission. He suggested council may wish to consider an amendment to the local code if it desires the council to initiate the annual docket.
Staff also announced a kickoff meeting for the 2027 comprehensive-plan update on Sept. 11 at 6:00 p.m. in the planning-commission meeting; planners invited council members to attend and provide direction.
No action was taken; the item was informational and will return for docket adoption at a future meeting after review by council and the planning commission.
