Norfolk County commissioners accept June trial balance, approve payroll and expense warrants

NORFOLK COUNTY, Mass. — The Norfolk County commissioners on Aug. 6 accepted the county's June 30 trial balance and approved a package of payroll and expense warrants, moves county officials said close out fiscal-year accounting and free staff to begin budget planning for FY'26.

The commissioners voted to accept the June 30 trial balance of $39,272,363.49. Treasurer's Office staff reported the county closed fiscal year 2025 with a favorable position of $2,260,629.99, which will be discussed further at the advisory board meeting in September.

The acceptance came during a roll-call style series of approvals. Commissioners approved multiple payroll warrants, including county payroll warrants in the sums of $156,304.43 and $25,348; school payroll warrants of $170,041.68 and $282,607.17; ARPA-related opera awards of $86,000 to Franklin and $12,924.35 to Quincy; a Wollaston recreational facility credit-card payment of $60,082; and a general county expense warrant of $87,174.61. All motions were moved, seconded and approved by voice vote.

Mister York from the treasurer's office confirmed the fiscal close and the favorable position, and county staff said they will present details to the advisory board at the Sept. 17 meeting as departments submit supplemental and capital requests. County officials also noted that the favorable close provides capacity to model a tentative $750,000 capital plan for the coming year.
