Board amends Catlin Park archery deer-hunting rules, tightens hunting-hours language

The LaSalle County Board on Aug. 14 approved amendments to Catlin Parkarchery deer-hunting rules. The county owns Catlin Park, a 333-acre parcel, and the property committee proposed revisions intended to manage deer populations and provide hunting opportunities for residents.

Key changes approved included removal of a provision that had allowed crossbows for certain groups (handicap hunters with a state permit or hunters aged 62 and older with a state permit) and clarification of hunting hours to match Illinois Department of Natural Resources (DNR) guidance: hunting hours were amended to 30 minutes before sunrise and 30 minutes after sunset. The rules were also clarified regarding when stands may be placed (discussion referenced a change to stands being placed beginning the third or fourth Saturday in October rather than in September). The textual amendments shown on the exhibit attached to the resolution were adopted as presented.

Board members asked staff to correct minor typographical errors when posting the final document. The resolution was moved by Mister Brown and seconded by Mister Emmett; the board approved the amendment by voice vote.
