Council schedules workshop to review city hall feasibility study and options

Council members agreed Aug. 7 to schedule a workshop to review the feasibility study and discuss whether to pursue restoration of the existing city hall or construction of a new facility.

Vice Mayor Chabelle Young asked for a discussion after local press coverage suggested a decision had been reached; she said the council had not previously discussed the subject in detail and requested a workshop. Several council members supported a workshop; Councilman Jernigan asked that some meetings be scheduled in the morning to better accommodate department heads, while Councilman Carter opposed morning meetings on public‑access grounds.

City Manager Rosenthal said staff will set up the workshop and coordinate with the clerk. Council did not take formal action beyond directing staff to schedule the workshop and to present the feasibility study results.
