Planning commission recommends approval of Ashland Section 5 street-dedication plat

The Angleton Planning and Zoning Commission recommended approval on June 5, 2025, of a preliminary street-dedication plat for Ashland Development Section 5 that extends Sapphire Springs Trail as shown on the submitted graphic, subject to any referral-agency requirements.

The commission's action matters because the preliminary plat advances a street-dedication needed for ongoing build-out of the Ashland subdivision and cleared city-engineer comments that were textual in nature.

Mr. Spriggs presented the plat and said the city engineer reviewed the submission and issued a list of 12 textual comments; the applicant submitted corrections and the engineer cleared the comments. "This particular plat was forwarded to our city engineer who has reviewed the plat and, there were 12 outstanding comments, that were all textual in nature," Spriggs told the commission. He asked the commission to forward a recommendation of approval to City Council subject to referral agencies such as Brazoria County for drainage and county-road permitting.

Commissioner Townsend moved to approve the street-dedication preliminary plat for Ashland Development Section 5 subject to referral-agency approval and to forward it to City Council for final action; Commissioner Ford seconded. The commission voted in favor and the chair declared the motion carried.

The staff record notes that referral agencies — including Brazoria County where county drainage or road connections are involved — may require additional permits or conditions. The approval is preliminary and subject to final engineering and any additional referral-agency requirements prior to final platting and construction.
