Board Approves Temporary Parking Closures on West Jefferson for Building Pressure Washing

The Board of Public Works and Safety on Sept. 2 approved a request by property owner Trent Buchanan to block four parking spaces on the 100 block of West Jefferson Street on Sundays and Mondays for the next three weekends to allow pressure washing of paint from his building. City staff and board members discussed that two nearby businesses—Eclectic Jade and Vintage Whimsy—are closed on Sundays and Mondays and that Buchanan owns one of the affected buildings. A board member said Buchanan had been previously stopped for pressure washing without prior board permission; the record states, "He's been doing this for a couple weeks, and he got shut down last [time] by not getting the proper permission from the board of works to do that." The motion to allow the temporary closures included a request that Buchanan notify the affected business owners of potential delivery impacts; Buchanan agreed to do so. The board approved the closures by voice vote.
