Commission to auction donated Spartan bookmobile; proceeds to go to animal shelter

Commissioners discussed a donated Spartan bookmobile that the city determined it could not reasonably convert to the donor’s intended use as a mobile adoption center. The attorney advised that if the donation had no conditions the city may declare the vehicle surplus and dispose of it; staff said the donor signed the title over and no caveats were attached.
"They donated it with the intent to convert the mobile library into a mobile adoption center. It's really not feasible to spend the money converting it into a mobile adoption center and so there was no there were no caveats or requirements in their donation paperwork," staff said. Staff said that once the surplus declaration is approved staff will list the vehicle on GovDeals and return to the commission with sale proceeds and a budget resolution to place the funds into animal control.
