Council approves Richmond Area Historical and Genealogical Society cemetery walk, authorizes banner

The Richmond City Council on Sept. 2 approved a request from the Richmond Area Historical and Genealogical Society to hold its eighth annual living-history cemetery walk in the Richmond Cemetery on Saturday, Sept. 27, with Sunday, Sept. 28 reserved as a rain date, and directed the city clerk to apply to MDOT for an across-the-road banner. The council recorded the motion as approved after a voice vote. The organizers requested event hours from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. in their initial submission; during the motion the council specified the event would run 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. and requested the banner be placed from Monday, Sept. 15 through Sunday, Sept. 28. The society characterized the walk as a fundraiser; the council noted it has approved the event in prior years. No public objections were recorded during the meeting. The motion was made, seconded and passed; the record shows the council “signify by saying aye” and later, “Against? Motion does pass.” The council directed the city clerk to submit the banner application to the Michigan Department of Transportation. The city did not record a roll-call vote in the transcript and no additional conditions were added at the meeting.
