Board approves Walk to End Alzheimer’s and Whoopie Pie Mile special event permits

The Board of Aldermen approved two special event permit requests: the Walk to End Alzheimer’s scheduled for Sept. 27 at Meadow Street Park and the Whoopie Pie Mile scheduled for Sept. 13 at Meadow Street Park.
Organizers described the Walk to End Alzheimer’s as a fundraiser supporting helpline services, family support and research; Jasmine Ferrari of Williston presented event details and said the walk route would be ADA-accessible and pass through the downtown farmers market. The Whoopie Pie Mile organizer (Colleen Shattuck) submitted permit materials earlier that day; the motion to approve the permit was passed after suspending the rules.
Why it matters: Special events bring visitors and fundraising to the downtown core and require municipal coordination for park use and street access. The board typically approves event permits subject to standard conditions and coordination with city staff.
What’s next: Organizers will proceed with event logistics in coordination with the city’s event and public-safety staff; permits were approved by voice vote.
