The School District of New Berlin board on Tuesday voted to postpone a decision on renewing its membership with the Wisconsin Association of School Boards (WASB) while board leaders study alternatives and review the value of services.
Board chair and district administration said WASB provides legal consultation, policy support and discounted event access, but several board members expressed reservations about the association’s policy positions and overall value. The superintendent said the district has used WASB for legal and policy support in the past but that recent options from other organizations merit further vetting.
The board voted to postpone action; administration and board leadership (Janet and the superintendent) will explore alternatives and report back at a future meeting. No membership lapse or immediate action was taken while the item is reviewed.
Speakers on the item included the superintendent, board president Janet and other board members. Quotes and positions are drawn from remarks during the meeting.
