District 211 accepts annual school safety plan review and authorizes submission of drill reports

The Township HSD 211 Board of Education accepted the district’s annual review of safety plans, protocols, procedures and school safety drills and authorized the superintendent or designee to complete and submit required paperwork for annual drill reviews and threat assessment records to the regional office of education.

Superintendent Dr. Lisa Small told the board that local emergency response units, including police and fire departments from the villages serving the district, were invited to contribute to the yearly review. She said representatives from both fire and police departments were “closely involved with district personnel in the development of the response plan.”

Board members praised the district’s ongoing emergency-preparedness work. Board member Van Dyke said school and student safety is “the most important aspect in a school and in a district” and thanked staff and local responders for continuous improvements to plans and procedures.

The motion to accept the annual review and authorize submission of required reports passed by roll call. Staff said the district continues its multi-agency collaboration and will maintain the local process for drills and threat-assessment record submissions.
