Rockwall High officials praise new Kyle Road parking restriction for improving student safety

Rockwall High School leaders told the City Council during the open forum on Aug. 18 that a recent parking restriction on the Kyle Road school side has noticeably improved safety and bus operations.

Dane Steinberger, who identified himself as principal at Rockwall High School, told the council he was speaking as a parent and school official and said the new measure, in place roughly a week, had “made a world of difference.” He said permitting enforcement of parking restrictions allowed buses to move through and reduced hazards for students.

Assistant Principal Dustin Gunner, who also spoke during open forum, said he had observed the change in traffic patterns and thanked council members and staff for working with school officials to implement the restriction. Mayor McCallum and council members publicly thanked Councilwoman Campbell for initiating the issue and noted the cooperation between the city and school officials.

No formal council action was recorded at the meeting as a result of these comments; both Steinberger and Gunner addressed the council during the open forum segment.
