Board adopts superintendent evaluation tool with CCMR component; reviews STAAR results and governance schedule

The Calhoun County ISD Board of Trustees adopted a revised superintendent evaluation process June 16 that adds a College, Career and Military Readiness (CCMR) component to the tool. The evaluation tool had been presented in training May 27 by Tony Williams of Region 3 Education Service Center, and trustees asked that Board-adopted superintendent constraints be incorporated; the requested additions were made. Why it matters: Including CCMR in the evaluation ties superintendent performance to student postsecondary readiness measures, a district priority for high-school outcomes. The evaluation motion, moved by Lori Leal and seconded by Tyler McAfee, passed unanimously 6–0. As part of Lone Star Governance items, Julie Duckett-Casey, principal of Jackson Roosevelt Elementary School, presented kindergarten, first- and second-grade reading and math STAAR scores and year-over-year growth percentages; Superintendent Evan Cardwell provided the board’s interpretation of that data as recorded in the minutes. Region 3 ESC’s Tony Williams conducted the board evaluation and discussed community engagement opportunities; the board approved the Lone Star Governance items by motion of David Gaskamp, seconded by Tyler McAfee, 6–0.
