Williams County Finance Director presented the 2026 preliminary budget to the Board of County Commissioners on Aug. 5 and asked for approval of the budget packet incorporating changes discussed at a July workshop. Finance staff indicated one late budget item — referred to in the packet as “UmDU” — came in higher than projected. To cover the difference, the finance director proposed borrowing $3,009.86 from the general fund and adjusting the levy request accordingly.
Commissioners approved the preliminary budget with that amendment and confirmed the public hearing date for the budget: Sept. 16 at 8 a.m. in the commission chamber. The finance director said the date will be printed on tax statements once the budget is adopted. The board approved the amendment and preliminary budget by roll call; no additional changes or conditions were attached at the meeting.
County officials emphasized that the packet reflects changes from a previous budget workshop and that further budgetary action will follow the public hearing and required notices.
