County authorizes purchase of two postage meters to meet IMI security standard; state to offset part of courthouse unit

The McLeod County board approved purchasing two Fusion A120DS mailing machines from Veil American Mailing Machine of Burnsville, Minnesota, including United States Postal Service meter rental and a five‑year maintenance agreement.

Staff reported a stated total equipment cost of $33,100, meter rental of $3,780 for 60 months and a five‑year maintenance agreement at $2,400; staff also said the first year of maintenance is free and separately referenced a per‑machine figure of $16,680. County staff said replacing the older leased machine is partly driven by a new IMI security standard that the new machines meet. The county expects the purchase to save approximately $2,230 annually compared with the county’s current lease agreement for the existing machine.

The county will order one machine immediately for the courthouse and the second will arrive shortly before the government center lease expires in November. Staff said the state has agreed to pay $6,300 toward the courthouse mailing machine.

Commissioner Wright moved to approve and the board approved the purchase by voice vote. County staff did not provide additional breakdown beyond the figures presented on the record; the board approved the procurement as described.
