County attorneys received authorization Aug. 19 to deliver 30 days' written notice terminating the county's contract with the current EMS medical director, Dr. Spindell, and to prepare a transition to a new medical director, Dr. Barker.
County Attorney Dan Morrison told the board that termination is required under the contract and asked for permission to send the formal notice so the county could begin the transition. Chief Miller and staff explained the change is intended to streamline protocols between ground and air ambulance services by placing both under the same medical director; Chief Miller said the new doctor's local availability and integration with existing helicopter medical services will smooth the transition.
Commissioner Mobley moved to authorize the county attorney to send the termination letter; Commissioner Perkins seconded and the motion passed 5-0. Morrison referenced the county contract (as stated in the meeting) "Contra Suwannee County Grama 20 ten-seventy 7" when noting contract termination requirements.
