School district brings threat‑assessment policy to board for first reading following safety training

Round County district staff presented a first reading of proposed revisions to policy 09/22 — threat assessment — at the Aug. 19 board meeting, citing recommendations from the Kentucky School Boards Association (KSBA) after recent training.

Miss Carver said the district “did threat assessment training with the Kentucky Center for School Safety” and that the district is proposing revisions “based on the recommendations from the Kentucky School Board Association.” She told the board this was a first reading and no approval was required at this meeting.

Why this matters: Threat‑assessment policies establish how a district evaluates and responds to student threats and behaviors that may indicate safety risks; changes recommended by KSBA are commonly adopted to align district practice with state guidance and best practices. The board did not take action on the policy at the Aug. 19 meeting; staff said further review would precede any second reading or adoption.
