Board approves Carlos Belo as Cedar Hill ISD chief of police

The Cedar Hill ISD Board of Trustees approved the appointment of Carlos Belo as chief of police. The board's motion to accept the administration's recommendation was moved by Trustee Ramona Ross Bacon, seconded by Trustee Carmel Morgan and approved unanimously.

Administrators told the board that Belo holds a bachelor's degree in criminal justice administration and brings 29 years of law enforcement experience that includes roles as an officer, detective, sergeant and lieutenant in city and school-district settings, plus recent work in human resources and investigations. Trustees said Belo is a returning candidate to the district and that the administration recommended hiring him.

Addressing the board after the vote, Belo said he accepts the responsibility to lead the district police department and pledged to "build strong relationships and ensure transparency and foster a secure learning environment for our kids," adding he is "honored to serve."

Action: Motion to hire Belo moved by Trustee Ramona Ross Bacon; seconded by Trustee Carmel Morgan; vote recorded as unanimous in favor. Belo briefly addressed the board following approval. No additional personnel actions were taken at this moment.
