A representative reported enrollment and program highlights from the Dickinson Adult Learning Center, telling the board the center has grown over the last four years and noted specific program successes.
The presenter said enrollment rose from 101 to 249 over four years, and that the center recorded 19 GED completions this year (the presenter corrected an earlier statement that there were 15). The center offers English-as-a-foreign-language classes with assessment scores shown alongside state averages; in several measures the center’s results matched or exceeded the state, the presenter said. A pilot "toddler and me" English class lets some learners bring a child to class so parents with children can still participate.
The adult learning center also runs citizenship preparation classes covering U.S. history, geography and government, coordinates community service projects (for example, packing supplemental food for seniors), and organizes an annual field trip; the presenter noted nominations and awards recognizing leadership in adult education.
Board members thanked the presenter and noted the center’s positive community impact.
