The Marshalltown Community School District Board opened and closed a public hearing on plans, specifications, form of contract and estimated total cost for the Marshalltown High School parking lot project during its regular meeting.
An engineer presenting the project said the work would cover about 2,700 square yards of pavement south of the band lot and north of the pedestrian walkway that leads from the roundhouse to the athletic complex. He gave an engineer’s opinion of cost of $278,913 and said the scope includes reestablishing eight ADA parking stalls, constructing an ADA-accessible route between the stalls and the athletic complex and addressing elevation changes at the west ends of both north and south parking lots.
Board members and the engineer discussed a significant drop-off at the west end near the main walkway and stairs from Bobcat Boulevard; the engineer said crews will remove some pavement and reslope the area so curb drops approximate a standard six-inch condition. He also confirmed the project will extend south of the walkway to address the same drop-off there.
No public speakers other than the presenting engineer were recorded during the hearing. The board closed the hearing and moved on to other agenda items; the transcript does not record a vote to award a contract at this meeting.
Project materials presented to the board note the lot was used as a staging area during athletic-complex construction and has deteriorated. The agenda packet identifies the location as the parking area immediately south of the band lot and north of the pedestrian walkway to the athletic complex.
Next steps described in the presentation were limited to the hearing itself; the transcript does not record the board approving plans, awarding a contract or setting a construction schedule. Those formal actions, if taken, would appear in a future board action item.
